This study investigates the narrative construction and subversion of femininity in three tales from E.T.A. Hoffmann: “Rath Krespel” (1818), “The Mystery of the Deserted House” (1817), and “The Vow” (1817). Through its analysis, the study links the paradigm of intersectionality – which originated primarily in sociological research – with narratological approaches on unreliable and metafictional narratives.
