This book, first published in 1944, then revised and enlarged in 1957, has been in the archives for a long time and has now taken a new avatar in the electronic version. It does a thorough examination of Indian History and Culture, the beginnings of the historiography in the vedas, the early lives or legends of the Buddha, the historical traditions of the Puranas, and the two leading royal and dynastic chronicles composed by the Bana and Kalhana in the seventh and twelfth centuries respectively of the Christian era.
