Description

In this collection of essays, thirteen women's studies pioneers from elevencountries in Asia describe their individual passages into feminist consciousnessand their work in women's studies. The stories are diverse, ranging fromFareeha Zafar's efforts to establish a trade union in Pakistan, to Liang Jun who,at 40, was inspired by a lecture to go on a "mission" to raise women's consciousnessin China, and to Thanh-Dam Truong from Vietnam, whose activismbegan with the student protests at Ohio University in the 1960s. Interweavingthe personal with the political, each woman's odyssey links women's studies tosocial change in Asia.
