Who doesn't shudder at awkward silence? Anyway, loved the information on evoking stories versus telling them. I've noticed about myself in that I want to tell stories but probably in doing so do a poor job of listening. Instead, there are a few ways I have learned to get other people to speak, basically, and continue to speak. The author argues that you can interview people like sports broadcasters which I thought was insightful. I watch the NBA a lot so it was actually kind of true what he noticed. Additionally you can be a little bit shocked and play with that emotion more. I liked the final spin on making others the hero of the stories - including your stories! Great book.-ReaderI really like the idea of "conversational diveristy" as the author calls it. Basically there are infinite ways to responding to generic questions, but we choose the lazy and boring ones out of laziness and boredom,right? It doesn't sound so mind blowing but the point being made is we have lost our sense of pleasure and entertainment in conversation. So: would you rather... :)-Reader Good find on Amazon, this is a much more helpful and serious book than the cover would make you think. It's funny, but it also captures the feeling of the awkward silence pretty well. There are a lot of tips here to help you in convos, again, more than I expected. I liked this book a lot.-Reader
