Description

Fire safety science-proceeoings of the second international symposium, pp. 841-850. Most fire codes use only one or two radiation flux values when considering the external walls of buildings. If it is satisfactory to assume fire compartment temperatures are proportional to time, then it should be equally satisfactory to assume radiation flux levels are proportional to time. On this premise and using the standard time-temperature curve, a wider than usual range of design radiation values can be derived which are in step with standard FRR ratings. The method allows building designers more flexibility in the choice of ordinary or fire windows, both in "mirror-image" or "non mirror-image" situations.
