Leibniz’s correspondence in 1705–06 was primarily shaped by significant political and military events: the Spanish War of Succession, the Great Northern War, and the prospects for the House of Hanover to ascend to the throne in England. In the domain of philosophy, Leibniz intervened in the discussion between J. Le Clerc and P. Bayle concerning R. Cudworth’s The True Intellectual System of the Universe (1678).
