Description

The studies in this volume are revised versions of papers presented at the Second International Conference on Historical Linguistics, Tucson, 12-16 January 1976. Three papers presented at the conference are not included here: "Matter vs. Mind: The Physical Basis of Sound Change" by John Ohala, "Historical Evidence in an Evolutionary Description" by Anoop Chandola, and "Towards a Typology of Change: Analogy" by Henning Andersen, Twelve of the papers presented were discussed formally by participants who had read preliminary drafts. Abstracts of those discussions are appended to the appropriate papers in this volume.
