Description

Geographical information systems (GISs) have been essential tools in urban planning and delivery of government services, but they have also been important to the private business sector as well. Pick (business, U. of Redlands) and contributors examine the current research in the US, Europe, Canada and Mexico on the application of GISs to business. Topics in the first section, which covers the foundations of the study of GISs in business, include understanding the concepts and theories of GISs, choosing techniques and methods, and determining costs and benefits. In the second section, which covers conceptual frameworks of GISs, topics include using databases and making decisions based on that analysis. Topics in the third section, which examines applications and the future, include GISs in health care services, marketing, retail loyalty, development, and real estate valuation.
