This book - the first ever full-length study to be devoted to it - considers it in its historical and literary contexts, and its Anglo-Norman, Welsh, Irish and Icelandic versions. It also offers detailed textual analyses, and discusses particular aspects of the story, its "afterlife" and its influence during the early modern period.
