Description

"I fell in love with Truffaut's rather strange film, Anne and Muriel, in the early 1970s and later discovered the novel on which it was based by Henri Pierre Roché, art connoisseur and intellectual Casanova, who was the lover of 'Anne' and 'Muriel'. Later still I found all the letters and diaries of the real 'Anne' and 'Muriel', and Henri Pierre's as well. The story of my book is about three layers - film (and how Truffaut made it), novel and reality. Thematically, it's about loving sisters and pairs of people, 'Casanova-ism', and new moralities early this century, amongst other things. But basically it is a story - of 'Anne' and 'Muriel', or Violet and Margaret (their real names). And Pierre." (Ian MacKillop)
