Description

A bilingual edition of an illuminated MS of the Devi-Mahatmya acquired in the early 20th century by Luigi Pio Tessitori in Rajasthan, now preserved in the municipal library in Udine. Herein are an introduction to the Devi-Mahatmya and the MS; a detailed description of the minitatures, their attribution and date: late 17th Century, Sirohi School, Rajasthan. A complete translation and critically edition of the MS follows. This is the first complete Italian translation of the Devi-Mahatmya (part of the Markandeya-Purana) one of the most important religious works of mediaeval and modern Hinduism.
