Colonel Vaughan's account of the Relief Expedition from his perspective as the commander of the Indian Army's 7th Rajputs is written with pace and humour. Colonel Vaughan was a trained artist of some distinction, and his watercolours of soldiers of various contingents in the Relief Force are used in this edition, along with photographs. Some black and white line drawings from the original 1902 edition are not reproduced, however.
