The Hunterian Museum's collection includes almost all the distance slabs which commemorated the construction of the Antonine Wall between Forth and Clyde in AD 142, together with building-records from forts, altars, gravestones, sculptures and architectural pieces. The use of unpublished archival material results in a fascinating account of antiquarian enthusiasms. Some 80 individual stones are catalogued, and the overall content of the collection is assessed.
