In an amazon review of the sedona method book written by Hale Dwoskin, someone shared that his book is plagiarism of Virginia Lloyd's teaching and that the way she teaches, you just need one weekend with her and boom!!, you release. Here's a portion of the review::Virginia teaches it about 100 times more effectively and with incredible finesse, as she guides students extremely lovingly and intuitively (never rote, cookie-cutter or robotically), because she knows it inside-out and backwards and applies incredible heart to it. Again, she developed it, so it's an actual extension of her. But, barring being lucky enough to learn it from Virginia herself in her original, live, two-weekend training format (if you could somehow coax her to do it again),44 CommentsShareSaveCommentMarkdown ModeSort By: Old|Search commentsUser avatarlevel 1YESmynameisYes·1 yr. agoI, too, am curious about this!2ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 1BananaBeach007·1 yr. agoI'd be interested to learn as well. But to be fair, if it is true that Hale plagiarized - it spread the message far and wide. I would have never heard of the Sedona Method or the methods of releasing without him.3ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 2happyprocrastinatorOP·1 yr. agoYes but he teaches in a way that you become dependent of him and then he offers another thing and another program, and another book, and another and another until he runs out of ideas. With Virginia, one class with her is enough to release. I really wish the person who wrote the review had shared more info.2ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 3BananaBeach007·1 yr. agoYou know where to find an ebook of her Choose Freedom online? I could only find her Master Your Emotions, and Happiness is Free.2ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 4happyprocrastinatorOP·1 yr. agoI got it from a public library in my city. Check on worldcat.org for libraries near you that may have it. And Happiness is Free isn't her book; it was published by hale dowskin.https://worldcat.org/title/117622641ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 5andreouc3000·4 mo. agoCan you scan it for us?2ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 3IAMTHAT108·3 mo. agoWhat would you like to know?1ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 4happyprocrastinatorOP·3 mo. agoI was always intrigued by how Lester decided that he was going to be a millionaire and things happened that Led him to become one. Or how he decided to travel and met someone on the street and next thing he knew, he got a way to get there even though he didn’t have the money to travel with him.So, did Virginia Lloyd’s teaching taught people to reach the point that Lester did, in which he could have it all effortlessly? Or was her program focused on releasing resentment, sadness, etc?And how can one release resentment (to forgive)?1ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 5IAMTHAT108·3 mo. agoBoth are the same, ultimately - getting to the point that Lester did, where all was fulfilled spontaneously and effortlessly, and releasing unwanted feelings from their underlying ego-wants for approval, control, and to change. Releasing the ego "wants" gets us to this natural state of fulfillment.Virginia mostly focused on having her students stir up and release their likes/dislikes (vasanas) from the roots of w/a, w/c, w/ch, and at times used Goal Charts in the process.Ultimately, getting everything effortlessly comes from a quiet mind, which comes from knowing/being what one truly IS, and that is easier when the likes/dislikes are released and the mind becomes tranquil. This helps the Self (Pure Awareness) become obvious, like a calm lake clearly reflects the sun without the distortion of ripples or waves on the surface.Use the "Clean-up Process" for releasing resentments, and letting the seeming "other person" be as they are and wish to be, not as you wish them to be. Resentment comes from wanting to change or control the other person or wanting their approval and not getting it and perhaps feeling threatened by them. Recognize this and the pain the wanting to change, control, and get their approval causes. Then drop it like a blazing-hot ember in your hand. Let them be as they are and love them the way they are, even if they've made mistakes and continue to make them. Do this for you. Release until you feel, "You are me. I am you. We are one." That is Love/Truth. Those harming others only do so from ignorance of their true nature, as we all do. So we forgive, we love, we patiently endure and encourage others to stop hurting others and themselves out of ignorance, ego-selfishness, and anger, and to more and more recognize the true nature of Self/Reality/Love. Sometimes all we can do is lovingly point in the right direction over and over again.1ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 3EukaryoteVRM·1 mo. agoThat’s very objective. I have learned from Hale and Larry Crane. Crane was heavy handed. Dwoskin never. I never became dependent and use the methods to this day after 20+ years.1ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 1greyhoundsss·1 yr. agoI wish Virginia’s training materials were still available. I’ve been studying this method from the materials of Hale, Lester, Dr. David Hawkins, Cedric Bertelli (who teaches a similar method called TIPI/EmRes/emotional resolution) for years. I made some progress, but feel like I’m not quite doing it right. It sounds like Virginia’s teachings could help slow learners like me get on the right track.3ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 2happyprocrastinatorOP·1 yr. agoI never heard about Cedric Bertelli, I am going to have to search him. Did you get benefits from using his method?1ReplySharelevel 1[deleted]·1 yr. agoThey were Lester Levenson's teachings, to be precise. Hale Dwoskin was Lester Levenson's caregiver and eventual successor, although Larry Crane also created his own version called The Release Technique. The Sedona Method and The Release Technique don't teach releasing, they just provide the context where the release happens all by itself. Releasing is natural, after all, although in our crazy busy modern lifestyles, we have lost that ability.3ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 2happyprocrastinatorOP·1 yr. agoHis sucessor was actually Virginia LLoyd. I hope to one day find her original teachings or someone who learned from him willing to teach me. I hate that teachings that help people have been suppressed by greedy people who want to sell lame programs for money.2ReplySharelevel 3[deleted]·1 yr. ago·edited 1 yr. agoThe Sedona Method Book has been available for almost 20 years now. It contains the basic system and is available for around £10/$15.What's with all the nonsense you are talking?2ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 3Matti19·11 mo. agoSorry, but this is not true. Lester replaced virigina as leader of sedona institute because she wasnt «high» enough to be of most service to others and later chose Hale. Lester chose Hale as his sucsesor years before he past away, so this is simply not true.2ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 4happyprocrastinatorOP·11 mo. agohale is of service to others**?**the guy who keeps creating different programs to get people to pay him?did you even read the first post in which i posted someone's review?2ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 5Matti19·9 mo. ago·edited 9 mo. agoAbsolutely he is! I know from my own direct experience, having met him and worked with him directly. That is your projection. People find them helpful and that is why he keeps doing it, its not about the money. He offers a lot of free stuff as well. There is no forcing new programs on people.I did, and that is the belief of one person.Virginia did not create the method but was part of the group which did. She wasnt even the first sedona method instructor, she took over after Kathelyn (i think that was her name) stopped teaching. The truth is Lester fired Virginia and hired Hale instead. He knew what he was doing. I guess some people find that hard to accept.2ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 6happyprocrastinatorOP·9 mo. agoI don’t believe it.1ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 5TheAncientOne1949·7 mo. ago·edited 7 mo. agoThe Sedona Institute produced a magazine for graduates called Release. I received that magazine regularly for more that a decade. Up until 1990s there was never any mention of Hale, but there was regular mention of Virginia, and her book Mastering Your Emotions in every issue. Then any mention of Virginia or her book disappeared from the Release magazine, and Hale was the only one mentioned. What is true is that Hale ended up with control of the Sedona Institute and Virginia did not.1ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 6new_old_trash·1 mo. agoHe also "overwrote" the ISBN of Choose Freedom with his own book (Happiness is Free), and it outnumbers her book in the wild greatly - consequently I have never been able to purchase it. Its Hale and another women teaching it over two weekends and it is the exact thing Virginia did as well. Moreover, she didnt create the sedona method. She and a group people where studying under lester and developed it with his guidannce and support. There are even recordings of her telling a story of a womanin that group who came up with the question, could i let it go.4ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 2happyprocrastinatorOP·11 mo. ago·edited 11 mo. agoHow do you know the video online is the class that virginia taught?1ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 3Matti19·9 mo. agoThat is what i have heard from different sources. I also recall listening to Virginia talking about the two weekend format, which they use in the videos.Besides that, why go searching for what she did? Every tool from the Sedona method and from Lester is easily available. You dont need virginia teaching you or anyone else for that matter. It is all up to you, there is no need to search for something new to discover what Lester discovered. It is all there..2ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 1SallyNova·10 mo. agoI just read that review as well! Just the other guy, and he just seemed to be telling ppl to find their issue and release it. That was it.But a video by Tara Brach came up, and she's incredible. I've been listening to her for sometime now and in this video I feel like she's doing the sedona method - but in her own way. She's very peaceful and explains things in such a beautiful way. She also has a pod cast under her own name.https://www.youtube.com/live/j5f859MuqwI?feature=share1ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 1Matti19·9 mo. agoJeannie Fitzimmions did work with Virginia and according to her website offers the course as Virginia taught it: «Jeannie offers HeartWisdom™ Seminars, small sized advanced retreats, as well as the original 4-Day Core Releasing Basic Course, as developed and taught by Virginia Lloyd, former Director of Training of the Sedona Institute»https://www.heartwisdomseminars.com2ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 1TheAncientOne1949·8 mo. agoI learned the basic method in the early 1980s. I also met Virginia and Lester at that time. The basic method taught in the Sedona Method book is definitely not the method I was taught, and the way it was taught in the 1992 video, is not the way the class I took was taught. According to Hale's bio the format in 1976, when he took the Basic training, was the same as the one I went through, which was an instructor and a group of people around a table, with the instructor going from person to person asking if there was something they wanted to release on. She would work with that person until that person released or did not want to continue, and then she moved on to the next person. There was little or no lecture. It is my understanding from Choose Freedom that Lester and Virginia formed the Sedona Institute in 1974, and that she was the director of training and also the spokes person for the Sedona Institute until sometime after Hale arrived in Arizona. Hale did not arrive in Arizona until 1987, so what I learned may or may not have been Virginia's version. According to Choose Freedom, Lester did tell Virginia that she was not high enough to be of service to others, but he said that years before he and Virginia formed the Sedona Institute.2ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 2happyprocrastinatorOP·8 mo. agoI read Choose Freedom and loved how she shared Lester's story. I like that he told how he went through each person whom he held something against.Did you learn with Virginia? Is it true that Virginia Lloyd does not teach anymore?I cannot find anything about her and I am unsure if the people who claim to teach the method are teaching what she taught or what Hale claims is the method.1ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 3TheAncientOne1949·7 mo. agoI did not learn directly from Virginia. I found an obituary for a Virginia Lloyd who lived in Sedona, it did not mention Sedona Method, but did say she was an actress, author and listed her children Richard and Eric. Here is the link https://www.mykeeper.com/profile/VirginiaLloyd/ Since Sedona is not very big, it seems unlikely that there were 2 Virginia Lloyds of about the same age with the same background, and with 2 children with the same names.1ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 4Foreign_Occasion_731·5 mo. agoThat is exactly Virginia. I have Virginia book of "Choose Freedom" and I saw her picture there.1ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 3TheAncientOne1949·7 mo. agoDid you ever wonder if what is in Choose Freedom, is actually what Lester did? He did just 2 things, and he was relentless at doing those two things. Sometimes they worked fast, and other times they did not, but he was diligent and he took as long as it took until he was released from one event after another. What if it were that simple? What if all you had to do is open yourself to the possibility without a push without prodding, without deadlines, and in that opening up to the possibility things began to change by themselves. How effortlessly could your life transform. Let yourself imagine doing what Lester did, and doing it over and over again, no matter the problem whether the size of a mountain, or a pebble. Could you allow it without concern with whether you would or when you might, and just allow it to be possible. Is this not what Lester did? What if it is that simple? Then you have everything you need. You no longer need Hale or Larry, or Virginia, or even Lester. What if you have the keys right now, and all you have to do is trust yourself, and let go, and in doing that you are already changing, and the changes can continue, one after another after another. How wonderful is that as you allow yourself to create this possibility over and over again.4ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 4happyprocrastinatorOP·7 mo. agoIt seemed that what Lester did was sit down, close his eyes and just think of whatever was bothering him and then...release. But my issue is with releasing. It seemed like he did it for hours for some stuff.I peaked at Hale's book, and he said to do 9 rounds to release - or maybe I heard in one of hi videos on youtube. I was skeptical of him because he pretends Virginia doesn't exist.Do you know if Virginia Lloyd still teaches the sedona method?1ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 5TheAncientOne1949·7 mo. ago·edited 7 mo. agoVirginia Lloyd died in 2021 at the age of 91, so there is no chance to study with her. When Hale took over the Sedona Institute in the early 1990s all traces of Virginia were erased.Lester's focus was in my estimation totally different than the one presented by Hale or the one I learned at the Sedona Institute. When I read Choose Freedom my releasing became much more effective, because my focus changed from releasing once in a while when I thought I needed it, to release on everything no matter how small, as soon as it happens, an example is my web page didn't open fast enough. This is a small thing and before I would have ignored it, but no longer. But the most important change was to start going through my life in order to release on each and every event that I wanted to change. Cleaning up ones own life is what Lester did, and he also immediately released anything in the present that disturbed his umperturbability. It took Lester a long time to release on things in part because the situation in which he was trying to change the feelings to love was a really big situation. I have found that changing my negative feelings about someone into feelings of love to be much more difficult than letting go of wanting to change the way that person behaved, or was, or the way I feel about the situation. It seems that it was more difficult for Lester as well, since the times he spent hours working on something was when he was trying to change his negative feelings into feelings of love. Once, "He saw himself as subject to and victim of everything he wanted to change. He began dissolving all that." From that point on in the book there are no references to him spending hours working on one something. Instead, his releasing accelerated. The right number of times that it takes to release something is the number of times that it takes. Lester focused on changing his negative feelings to feelings of love only because he wanted to be happy, and the only time he had been truly happy was when he was loving. But loving your enemies is hard. Is it possible? Yes it is possible, but in my experience there is a lot more resistance, than letting go of wanting to change that person.I finished reading Choose Freedom the Friday before Memorial day almost 4 weeks ago, and I have change more in that time since reading the book and applying what Lester did than in the previous 40 years of using the Sedona Method. I have only worked on portions of the past, 5 years of my life, and I have so much farther to go. I have not gotten close to the worst parts of my life, and now I am looking forward to getting there and releasing on it. I am becoming like Lester in that I want to see how far I can go. Where I am now is good, but how much better is possible? My level of unperturbability has sky rocketed, and yet there is so much more that is possible.3ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 6happyprocrastinatorOP·7 mo. agoI’m surprised that you are getting more benefits after reading the book than from the class. I guess the book complements the instruction you received in class? Is there any trusted Sedona method instructor out there who teaches the way Virginia taught? Or do you know where I can find her material (if there is any)? You mentioned that there was little to no lecture, but I was hoping that maybe the instructor gave out manuals or basic instructions for students to review at home.1ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 7TheAncientOne1949·7 mo. ago·edited 7 mo. agoI do not know any Sedona Method Instructors, so I cannot help you find one. But it is doubtful that you will find anyone who will train exactly as Virginia did. People change things. Also, I know of no manuals either.I had been curious what Lester actually did. When I read those sections, I had an aha moment, and things changed for me. Lester changed negative emotions into love, and he let go of wanting to change things he could not change. How to do the first is on page 74, and how to do the second is in Chapter 5 of the Sedona Method book, but the way Hale does it has many more steps and is much more complicated than what I was taught.Doing those 2 things, Lester attained enlightenment. He had no guru. What else does anyone need. If Lester did it, so can anyone else, if they are diligent enough and follow the path. The book shows the path. I was never shown the path before I read Virginia's book. Now I know the path, and so I will see how far it will take me.2ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 7TheAncientOne1949·7 mo. ago·edited 7 mo. agoI just realized that you do not own a copy of Choose Freedom so let me go over what I think Lester did. What steps did Lester use to change a negative feeling into love? He started with the doctor who sent him home, and Lester discovered he really hated the doctor. After Lester had spontaneously released the hate and the hate became resentment, Lester asked himself, "What did I do?" This is his answer. Can I change these feeling of resentment into feelings of love? That is the technique. It isn't in the Sedona Method book (SMB). I find asking, "Could I..." feels more gentle to me than asking , "Can I....), but that may be just personal preference. But letting go of wanting to change something is in Chapter 5 of the SMB. The way the SMB releases wanting to change something has more steps, than the way I was taught in the early 1980s, but both accomplish the same thing. Also, in Chapter 5, Hale states that letting go of wanting to change things is what Lester did in 1952.In Chapter 5 of the SMB the process isThink of something you want to change. 2. Welcome in what you want to change. 3. Ask, "Could you let go of wanting to change it?" 4. Would you? 5. When? The wanting will do one of 4 things. It will get stronger, weaker, stay the same or disappear. If it disappeared, you can stop releasing. For the other three, just keep releasing until the wanting goes away or you want to stop. Always be gentle with yourself. If you do not want to continue, just stop. If you do not want to start, don't start. So have fun, and keep releasing, and always be gentle on yourself.2ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 8happyprocrastinatorOP·5 mo. agoLester decided that he wanted to be a millionaire and he managed to eventually become one, by releasing. I do wonder if it is possible for someone else to duplicate those results. What results have you seen since you read Choosing Freedom?2ReplyShareUser avatarlevel 9SLPERAS·1 mo. agoHe did not became a millionaire by releasing. And she was strict about it being taught over two weekends. Reducing it to one weekend takes a lot out of its impact, which is what made her course 100x better to me. So no, they're not the same course, and unfortunately, Virginia passed away and so learning from her directly is no longer a possibility.Releasing, as Kate Freeman teaches it, would likely be the next best thing: https://heartofreleasing.org/. Very intuitive and heart-centered. Her courses are closest to Viriginia's style of teaching that I've found. Kate is lovely and is an outstanding teacher/facilitator. She may not be very well-known compared to the other two more well-known teachers, but she was part of the original crew around Lester and her classes are excellent.Virginia only focused on letting go of the w/approval, w/control, and w/to change. She did not teach students to focus at all on w/security or w/separation. I asked her why not. She said the w/approval, w/control, and w/change are themselves the survival and separation programs. She said Hale introduced the w/security and w/separate later and that they weren't necessary. But, I guess if one finds them helpful, they can't hurt.Anyway, I think any of the main Releasing courses out there will be helpful if one is sincere. As Sri Nisargadatta taught, it all comes down to "earnestness." If one is sincere and earnest in discovering their true nature, nothing can stop them. Or, as the first of the "Six Steps" might state: "You must want freedom/imperturbability (the goal) more than you want approval or control."2ReplyShare
