Description

KASKAL. Rivista di storia, ambienti e culture del Vicino Oriente Antico. — 2015. — Volume 12 — pp. 155-182.The archives of the Hittite capital provide one of the largest corpora of state treaties of the Ancient Near East. The texts of at least 40 international agreements are known, many preserved in more than one manuscript. These date from the first half of the 15th century until the end of the 13th century BC.Although already quite large, this text group represents only a fraction of the treaties concluded by the Hittite kings with their vassals and with other Great Kingdoms of the time. In fact, the existence in antiquity of many more treaties can be inferred from a number of indications in the Hittite sources. This paper will present a number of such “missing treaties”.
