A series of talks by Judith Leibowitz, one of the foremost teachers of the Alexander Technique. She introduced the Technique to the world-famous Juilliard School in New York and taught there for many years. This book is designed for the serious student or teacher of the Alexander Technique. ** About the Author Judith Leibowitz was born in Connecticut, was raised and went to school in New York City and received a BA from Brooklyn College. At 15 she had polio, which left most of her leg and hip muscles with minimum functionality. This enduring weakness led her to the Alexander Technique, first as a student, and later, out of necessity, as a teacher. F. Mathias Alexander, Alma Frank, and Lulie Westfeldt were her teachers. In 1964 along with four other teachers, she established the American Center for the Alexander Technique, Inc. (ACAT) a not-for-profit organization to train and certify Alexander teachers and to inform the public about the Technique (www.alextech.org.) From 1964 1990 she was actively involved, as Training Director, Board Member and/or Senior Faculty. Judy joined The Juilliard faculty in the new drama division at the invitation of John Houseman in 1968. She taught the Alexander Technique as a required course for all The Juilliard drama stu-dents. Judy s students included the actors Kevin Kline, Patti LaPone, Robin Williams, and Kelly McGillis. The American Conservatory Theatre, Arena Stage, Kristin Linkletter Voice program at the Guthrie Theatre and Temple University are among the institutions where she introduced and taught the Alexander Technique.
