How does the universe of ideas interact with the chances of success of entire societies? Throughout his long and fruitful career, Itamar Even-Zohar has devoted himself to the study of complex cultural systems, seeking to understand how they are built and how they interact with each other. In this collection of papers, his inquiry deals with the ideational work and the strategies that can lead to the survival and prosperity of some societies, while the absence of idea-makers can bring an end to the trajectories of their communities. To explore this theme, this volume is based on the discussion of concepts related to ideational work, ideas, strategies and cultural repertoire, using analyses about examples from world history, which contribute to understanding the construction and potential of the moment in which we live.
