Monograph Series 32 — 1998. — Pp. 205-228.The quest for the Indo-European homeland over the last two centuries has been almost exclusively a preoccupation of European scholars. However, this concern has resulted in the reconstruction and reconfiguration of the pre- and proto-histories of other civilizations whose languages happen to belong to the Indo-European language family. This paper consists of a selection of responses from various (primarily) Indian scholars, over the course of a century or more, who have rejected the idea of an external origin of the Indo-Aryan side of the family into the Indian subcontinent.
