Description

The work includes available findings of silicite daggers discovered in the Czech and Slovak Republics up to 2023. These daggers are known to have existed during the late Stone Age (Chalcolithic), with their peak occurrence at the end of the Chalcolithic and in the Early Bronze Age. However, the main production centers of these daggers are located in Northern Europe, in Scandinavia. They mostly reached Central Europe through trade. Based on the current collection, a new typological classification for the Czech Republic has been created (types I to XIII), which also takes into account the results of the determination of the raw material used, allowing for a more specific identification of their connections both to neighboring regions and to the cultures of the local Chalcolithic.
