Description

First published by the University of Texas Press in Austin in 1957, this is the story of Lee Simmons, Manager of the Texas Prison System from 1930-1935. It relates many of his experiences during the turbulent era of his tenure, including his successful plan to end the reign of terror of Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker. Memoir by Simmons, an old-line lawman who served as General Manager of the Texas prison system from 1930-1935. In addition to orchestrating the pursuit and ultimate demise of Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, Simmons’ achievements also included a whole-scale reform of the Texas prison system, improving conditions for inmates in the areas of health, diet, and education.
